Famed Reporter Dies

(DailyEmailNews.com) – In sad news for the journalism landscape, Politico chief economic correspondent and CNBC well-known figure Ben White has passed away.

As confirmed by his partner through social media, White’s death happened recently following a period of sickness.

“I’m heartbroken to tell you that Ben died on Saturday, June 1 after a brief illness,” his partner Sara posted on White’s X profile.

“He loved his family, being a journalist, rooting for the Yankees and the Commanders and so much more. He’ll forever be in my heart and will be missed by so many,” she added.

With a career spanning over three decades, White’s journalistic work was featured in prestigious publications such as the Financial Times, The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Prior to his time at Politico, which he joined in 2009, White was awarded for his reporting on the financial crisis at The New York Times.

Between 2005 and 2007, he was the Financial Times’ U.S. banking editor and Wall Street correspondent.

Following the announcement of his passing, several top journalists expressed their sorrow and paid homage to White.

Former CNN journalist John Harwood expressed his condolences: “Oh Sara, i’m so sorry and sad to see this awful news. Ben was such a fine person. heartbreaking.”

Veteran reporter David Weigel shared his personal reflections: “Awful news. So sorry for your loss. I loved seeing Ben’s updates on social media — he was blissed out about his life at home even when the industry was screwing him over. I’m glad you made each other so happy.“

Jack Shafer from Politico praised White’s qualities, both personal and professional, saying he was “a great comrade, a fine journalist, and the coup de Ville of sport fans.”
