Bernie Sanders: Trump Moving Country Into Authoritarianism

Bernie Sanders in glasses.

As President Donald Trump takes decisive action to restore law and order in Los Angeles, socialist Senator Bernie Sanders cries “authoritarianism.”

Sanders’ complaints reveal the left’s true agenda: open borders at all costs, even if it means allowing chaos and lawlessness to reign in American cities.

His remarks come after the president deployed troops to protect federal immigration agents from violent protesters.

President Trump issued a memorandum deploying at least 2,000 National Guard personnel to Los Angeles County after violent protests erupted in response to immigration enforcement operations.

The deployment marks the first presidential activation of National Guard troops in Los Angeles since the 1992 riots, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The deployment came after federal immigration agents faced dangerous opposition while attempting to enforce U.S. immigration laws.

Interim U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli justified the action by citing violence against police officers who were simply trying to do their jobs and protect communities.

During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sanders launched into a tirade against President Trump.

He made inflammatory accusations about the president’s commitment to constitutional principles:

“We have a president who is moving this country rapidly into authoritarianism…My understanding is that the governor of California, the mayor of the city of Los Angeles did not request the national guard but he thinks he has a right to do anything he wants.

“He is suing the media who criticizes him. He is going after law firms who have clients who were against him. He’s going after universities that teach courses that he doesn’t like. He’s threatening to impeach judges who rule against him. And he’s usurping the powers of the United States congress. This guy wants all of the power. He does not believe in the constitution. He does not believe in the rule of law.”

What Sanders ignores is that President Trump’s action came in response to dangerous conditions where immigration enforcement officers could not safely perform their duties due to violent protesters.

Rather than supporting law enforcement, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass opposed the deployment of National Guard troops.

Both Democrats described the deployment as “purposefully inflammatory” despite the ongoing violence.

While Sanders and his allies portray President Trump’s move as overreaching, many Americans see it as a necessary action to uphold the rule of law when local Democrat officials refuse to maintain order.

The protests in Los Angeles were not peaceful demonstrations but violent confrontations specifically aimed at preventing federal agents from enforcing immigration laws.

This represents yet another example of the radical left’s willingness to sacrifice public safety and the rule of law on the altar of their open borders agenda.

Sanders’ demands that Republicans oppose President Trump’s efforts to restore order reflect the left’s strategy: create chaos through failed policies, then criticize any attempt to address the problems they have created.
