Calling it a “scam” with fine print that hurts working Americans, socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez launched an attack on President Donald Trump’s tip tax exemption.
Watch the video down below.
Her tirade revealed Democrats’ true priorities: preserving the status quo over tax relief for hard-working Americans.
During a heated floor speech, the Squad member slammed the $25,000 cap on tax-free tips included in the Senate version of President Trump’s spending bill.
“As one of the only people in this body who has lived off of tips, I want to tell you a little bit about the scam of that text, a little bit of the fine print there,” Ocasio-Cortez said during her floor speech.
The self-described socialist was particularly enraged that the bill would reduce government welfare programs while providing tax relief to service workers.
Rather than celebrating the fact that hardworking waiters, bartenders, and service industry employees could keep more of their own money, AOC was outraged.
AOC’s outburst included personal attacks against her Republican colleagues, resulting in a rebuke from House Speaker Pro Tempore Mike Simpson.
Her theatrical performance appeared designed to appeal to her far-left base rather than evaluate the merits of tax relief for everyday Americans.
She said:
“The cap on that is $25,000, while you’re jacking up taxes on people who make less than $50,000 across the United States, while taking away their [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program] program, while taking away their Medicaid, while kicking them off of the [Affordable Care Act] and their health care extensions.”
Speaker Mike Johnson is working to unite House Republicans to pass the bill before the July 4 deadline.
The reconciliation package’s $25,000 cap on deductible tips differs from the House version, which had no cap on deductible tips.
It still represents significant tax relief for service industry workers who have long had their tips taxed by the federal government.
The left’s messaging strategy has become clear: attack any tax relief that allows Americans to keep more of their own money.
AOC’s rant reached its peak when she dramatically declared the bill “a deal with the devil” and attacked successful business leaders:
“This bill is a deal with the devil. It explodes our national debt, it militarizes our entire economy, and it strips away health care and basic dignity of the American people for what? To give Elon Musk a tax break and billionaires the greedy taking of our nation? We cannot stand for it, and we will not support it.”
What AOC and her fellow Democrats fail to mention is that the “no tax on tips” provision is a direct benefit to service workers who have long complained about having their hard-earned tip money taken away.
The Senate has already passed its version of President Trump’s bill, sending it back to the House for final revisions.
Despite AOC’s theatrical opposition, the bill represents a significant step toward financial independence.
