(DailyEmailNews.com) – Even Democrats are turning on the liberal movement as D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser signals the end of Black Lives Matter Plaza following Republican lawmakers’ push for its removal.
Watch the video down below.
The controversial plaza was created during the George Floyd protests in 2020.
It will now be transformed as part of the city’s America 250 mural project amid pressure from GOP representatives demanding it be renamed “Liberty Plaza.”
Bowser has indicated that the Black Lives Matter Plaza near the White House will be undergoing significant changes, potentially painting over the prominent mural that has stood since June 2020.
The announcement comes as Republican lawmakers introduce legislation to force the removal of what they call symbols of a “radical, defund the police organization” from the nation’s capital.
Representative Andrew Clyde (R-GA) introduced a bill that would withhold federal funds from Washington D.C. unless the plaza is renamed “Liberty Plaza.”
The legislation also demands the removal of any Black Lives Matter phrases from all D.C. government materials within 60 days of passage.
“President Trump is 100% right: we must clean up Washington, D.C. for the American people,” Clyde stated when introducing his bill.
“It’s time for our nation to leave this failed agenda behind — starting with the removal of the BLM Plaza from America’s capital,” he added.
Bowser appears to be retreating from defending the plaza, which spans 16th Street NW between H and K Streets, directly across from the White House.
The mayor now describes the planned changes as an “evolution” rather than explicitly defending the controversial landmark.
“The mural inspired millions of people and helped our city through a very painful period, but now we can’t afford to be distracted by meaningless congressional interference,” Bowser said.
Instead of prioritizing the defense of the BLM Plaza, Bowser asserted her administration must focus on more pressing concerns.
“The devastating impacts of the federal job cuts must be our number one concern. Our focus is on economic growth, public safety, and supporting our residents affected by these cuts,” she stated.
The plaza’s renaming comes amid broader Republican efforts to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs from government since President Donald Trump’s second administration began.
This push extends beyond symbolic spaces. Legislation has also been introduced to overturn D.C.’s Home Rule law through the BOWSER Act, which would effectively end the district’s autonomous government within a year.
The timing of the plaza redesign suggests the mayor is bowing to mounting pressure from Republican lawmakers. The original mural was painted in a rush in 2020 following protests after George Floyd’s death.
“When we created Black Lives Matter Plaza in June 2020, we sent a strong message that Black Lives Matter, and that power has always been and always will be with well-meaning people,” Bowser declared.
Neither Bowser’s office nor city officials have provided specific timelines for when the changes will occur or exactly what the new design will feature.

The BLM movement was nothing but a corrupt, anti-police, Marxist grift that divided America.
