Democrats have launched another attempt to undermine President Donald Trump’s executive authority as they now seemingly seek to shield Iran.
The move has been masterminded by US Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), who introduced legislation to curb the president’s ability to protect American interests against the terrorist regime.
The bill ultimately seeks to handcuff the Commander-in-Chief as tensions escalate in the Middle East.
The Democrat filed the war powers resolution while claiming it would prevent President Trump from engaging militarily with Iran without explicit congressional approval.
This move comes as Israel and Iran exchange strikes following Israel’s preemptive action against Iran’s advancing nuclear program, a threat Trump has long warned about.
While Israel took decisive action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons capability, Democrats appear more concerned with limiting the president’s authority than addressing the radical Iranian regime’s threats against America and its allies.
Kaine’s resolution allows for defense against imminent attacks but requires congressional approval for any sustained military operations.
President Trump has made it clear that while the U.S. was not involved in Israel’s strikes, he would not hesitate to defend American interests if necessary.
Iran has already threatened to attack U.S. bases if America intervenes in the conflict, demonstrating the real dangers military personnel face in the region.
“It is not in our national security interest to get into a war with Iran unless that war is absolutely necessary to defend the United States,” Kaine stated.
“I am deeply concerned that the recent escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran could quickly pull the United States into another endless conflict,” he added.
The Democrat-led measure faces significant challenges in the Republican-controlled Congress, where lawmakers recognize the importance of maintaining presidential authority to respond quickly to threats.
The resolution is part of a pattern of Democrat attempts to hamstring President Trump’s decision-making capabilities on national security matters.
Adding to the controversy, Senator Bernie Sanders condemned Israel’s defensive actions, going so far as to suggest Israel could become a “rogue state” and a “pariah among nations.”
These inflammatory comments from the far-left senator reveal the disturbing anti-Israel sentiment growing within the Democrat Party.
“The United States must not be dragged into another of Netanyahu’s wars – not militarily or financially,” Sanders declared.
“The US Constitution is crystal clear: there can be no offensive use of military force—against Iran or any other country—without an explicit authorisation from Congress,” the senator continued.
This is not Kaine’s first attempt to restrict President Trump’s war powers.
He previously led similar efforts following the elimination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, a terrorist responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people.
That operation, authorized by the president during his first term, was widely regarded as a successful counterterrorism mission that removed a significant threat to American forces.
The timing of this resolution raises serious questions about Democrat priorities as Iran advances its nuclear program and threatens U.S. interests.
Rather than presenting a united American front against a hostile regime, these actions signal division that Iran’s leaders will certainly exploit.
