Gorka served as deputy assistant to the president for a brief seven months during Trump’s first term before his exit in August 2017.
It was reportedly due to John Kelly’s opposition when he took over as White House Chief of Staff.
Despite this, Trump praised Gorka as a “tireless advocate for the America First Agenda and the MAGA Movement” in his recent nomination announcement.
“Sebastian Gorka is a con man. I wouldn’t have him in any U.S. government,” John Bolton stated.
The Democrat National Committee has also voiced concerns, labeling Gorka as a “far-right extremist” far from qualified for a senior counterterrorism role.
However, Trump’s decision to overlook traditional FBI background checks brings urgency to the discussion about the accountability of critical appointments.
Gorka’s history, laced with contentious affiliations like the Hungarian nationalist group Vitézi Rend, adds fuel to the fire.
Critics question his expertise on Islamic extremism due to a lack of academic and professional credibility, including a PhD endorsed by far-right figures, and no substantial military or intelligence experience.
“Up until a few hours ago, I would have said that was the worst Cabinet appointment in recent American history,” Bolton added.
