(DailyEmailNews.com) – In a move that will save billions in taxpayer money, the White House is offering federal employees a generous buyout package to resign.
With this measure, President Donald Trump is taking bold action to drain the swamp and cut government waste.
The Trump administration announced a groundbreaking “deferred resignation” program for all two million federal employees.
Specifically, the government is offering a severance package of approximately eight months of pay and benefits.
This strategic move aims to streamline the federal workforce, cut costs, and ensure that only dedicated public servants remain in government roles.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained the rationale behind this initiative:
“American taxpayers pay for the salaries of federal government employees, and therefore deserve employees working on their behalf who actually show up to work in our wonderful federal buildings, also paid for by taxpayers.
“If they don’t want to work in the office and contribute to making America great again, then they are free to choose a different line of work, and the Trump Administration will provide a very generous payout of 8 months.”
The administration expects 5% to 10% of federal workers to accept the offer, which could potentially save taxpayers a staggering $100 billion.
This move is part of President Trump’s broader strategy to overhaul and rightsize the U.S. government, fulfilling his promise to drain the swamp and eliminate bureaucratic inefficiency.
Under this program, employees can submit a “deferred resignation letter” by replying with “resign” until February 6.
Those who choose this option will retain all pay and benefits until September 30, regardless of their workload, and will be exempt from in-person work requirements during this period.
A senior administration official highlighted the need for this initiative, stating, “We’re five years past COVID and just 6 percent of federal employees work full-time in office. That is unacceptable.”
This program seeks to ensure that federal workers align with the new administration’s standards and return to full-time office work, prioritizing productivity and accountability.
While unions like the American Federation of Government Employees criticize the plan, claiming it will cause “chaos,” the reality is that this program offers a fair and generous option for those unwilling to meet the reasonable expectations of their taxpayer-funded positions.
A memo from the Office of Personnel Management read:
“If you choose not to continue in your current role in the federal workforce, we thank you for your service to your country and you will be provided with a dignified, fair departure from the federal government utilizing a deferred resignation program.”
This initiative excludes essential personnel such as military members, U.S. Postal Service workers, and those in roles related to immigration enforcement and national security.
It is a targeted approach to reduce bloat in non-critical government areas while maintaining crucial services.
President Trump’s administration is also taking steps to reclassify federal civil servants, making it easier to remove underperforming employees.
This move ensures that hardworking Americans’ tax dollars are not wasted on bureaucrats who fail to meet the high standards expected of public servants.
Federal employees face a clear choice as the February 6 deadline approaches: commit to serving the American people efficiently and effectively or take advantage of a generous severance package to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
This program represents a win-win for taxpayers and government workers, showcasing President Trump’s commitment to running government like a well-oiled machine.
