(DailyEmailNews.com) – At his first open-air rally since an attempted assassination last month, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump addressed a crowd from behind bulletproof glass in North Carolina.
However, the candidate shocked the Secret Service when he decided to step out from behind the bulletproof glass to comfort a supporter who needed medical help.
The protective setup featured a ballistics glass panel at the front and three additional panels surrounding the Republican.
During his speech in Asheboro, Trump stopped speaking when he heard shouts from the crowd signaling a medical emergency.
“What’s wrong?” he inquired, focusing on the disturbance. “A doctor, please,” he called out. “It is very hot here.”
As medical staff assisted a white-haired woman who seemed to have fainted, Trump left the safety of the bulletproof enclosure to hug her.
Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him as he moved closer to the crowd.
“You know, they come two days, three days early, and it’s a lot. It’s a lot of stress,” Trump remarked once he returned to the podium.
Following the July assassination attempt, the Secret Service advised against holding outdoor events, which have been a hallmark of Trump’s campaigns, drawing large crowds.
During his speech, Trump criticized former President Barack Obama, calling him “nasty” for remarks made at the Democrat National Convention.
Trump also accused Joe Biden and Kamala Harris of mishandling the Afghanistan withdrawal and escalating conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
He frequently referenced the Democratic convention in Chicago, where speakers had portrayed him as a national threat.
Trump questioned the audience if they had heard the speeches by Obama and Michelle Obama the previous night.
“He was taking shots at your president. And so was Michelle. You know, they always say, ‘Sir, please stick to policy. Don’t get personal.’ And yet they’re getting personal all night long, these people,” he remarked.
Trump’s arrival was marked by a flyover of his plane before he landed, sparking enthusiasm among the attendees.
Retired flight attendant and pilot Edna Ryan expressed confidence in Trump’s prospects but emphasized the need for strength in political battles.
Trump rallies veteran and retired business owner Lisa Watts also showed optimism about Trump’s chances against Harris.
“I don’t think that her record proves that she is ready to run this country,” Watts said.
