His withdrawal comes in the face of relentless attacks from the liberal media and the Deep State, who fear his potential to drain the swamp and restore justice to the great nation.
Trump recognized Gaetz’s integrity and dedication to the MAGA movement and expressed his appreciation for the congressman’s efforts.
Trump declared in a Social Truth post, “Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!”
“I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General. He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect,” Trump affirmed.
The congressman’s decision to step back demonstrates his commitment to the Trump administration’s success.
In his own words, Gaetz stated, “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s justice department must be in place and ready on Day 1.”
He added, “I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.”
The liberal media’s desperate attempts to smear Gaetz with baseless allegations of misconduct have failed to stick. Despite a lengthy investigation by the Biden DOJ, no charges were ever filed against the congressman.
While the House Ethics Committee’s investigation remains ongoing, it is important to note that their jurisdiction ends once Gaetz leaves Congress.
As House Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS) explained:
“If Mr. Gaetz were to resign because he is taking a position with the administration as the attorney general, then the Ethics Committee loses jurisdiction at that point. Once we lose jurisdiction, there would not be a report that would be issued.”
As the Trump administration prepares to take office, the focus now shifts to ensuring a strong and effective DOJ.
