(DailyEmailNews.com) – Providing his own account of what went on that day, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump described January 6, 2021, as a “day of love.”

During a Univision town hall, Trump stated January 6 was a “day of love,” given that his supporters gathered because they felt the 2020 election was rigged.

He emphasized the size of the crowd at the Ellipse, saying their presence was sparked by concerns over election integrity.

“They came because of the election. They thought the election was a rigged election, that’s why they came,” Trump explained. “Some of those people went down to the Capitol. I said, ‘peacefully and patriotically.’ Nothing done wrong, at all, nothing done wrong.”

His words are supported by his speech that day, where he stated, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

Trump’s characterization of the events contrasts with the narrative pushed by his political opponents and much of the mainstream media.

While they portray January 6 as an “insurrection,” Trump maintains that any violence was the result of a “relatively small” group.

The former president has also remarked that then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi failed to secure the Capitol adequately.

Trump’s stance on January 6 has not only rallied his base but also highlighted the divide in how Americans perceive the events of that day.

“All I want is honest elections,” Trump told Univision voters, reiterating his commitment to election integrity – a cause that continues to resonate strongly with his base.
