(DailyEmailNews.com) – After President-elect Donald Trump revealed his America First agenda, new Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum issued a thinly veiled threat.
In a clear departure from her predecessor’s mild approach, Sheinbaum revealed she was ready to strike back hard if Trump follows through on his promise to slap a 25% tariff on Mexican goods.
Sheinbaum did not mince words when it came to defending Mexico’s interests. She made it clear that if Trump wants to play hardball, Mexico is ready to retaliate with its own set of punishing tariffs.
“One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,” Sheinbaum warned, signaling she is not afraid to escalate the situation.
While Trump is rightfully concerned about the flood of illegal aliens and drugs pouring across our southern border, Sheinbaum is trying to deflect blame.
She claimed that drug issues are mainly a U.S. problem and praised Mexico’s efforts to control illegal migration flows.
However, she conveniently ignored the fact that her country has long been an entryway for both illegal aliens and narcotics.
In a stunning turn of events, Sheinbaum even accused the U.S. of smuggling weapons into Mexico.
Critics have been quick to point out that Mexico’s own lax border controls have allowed countless illegal weapons to flow in both directions.
“We negotiate as equals, there is no subordination here, because we are a great nation,” Sheinbaum declared.
While Sheinbaum talks tough, the reality is that Mexico’s economy is far more dependent on the U.S. than the other way around.
Major American companies like General Motors, Stellantis and Ford have significant operations in Mexico, but they could potentially relocate if necessary.
For some, the Mexican president seems to be gambling with her country’s economic future in a high-stakes game of chicken with Trump.
Economic analyst Gabriela Siller has warned that the situation could escalate due to personality clashes between both presidents.
