(DailyEmailNews.com) – In a shocking case of child exploitation, a young mother faces felony charges for trying to sell her newborn baby on Facebook for a mere $150.
21-year-old Juniper Bryson from Texas has been charged with a third-degree felony for the “sale or purchase of a child.”
The Harris County District Clerk’s Office confirmed the charges, which carry severe penalties under Texas law.
According to reports, Bryson reached out to at least six individuals on Facebook before giving birth in an attempt to sell her unborn child illegally.
One of Bryson’s out-of-state family members even helped by posting on Facebook, “She needs someone there during labor and to take the baby boy home. She doesn’t want him going into foster care.”
It was later discovered that Bryson told her family member that she was in fact looking to get paid for the baby.
“It’s not even like that, just enough to move into an apartment so I can work a job and get (my daughter) back, or a cheap down payment, or any car to get to different places to DoorDash. Nothing crazy at all,” Bryson wrote.
Although she was warned that her actions were illegal, she carried on while comparing the scheme to surrogacy and describing it as a “different kind of adoption.”
The situation became even more alarming when it was revealed that Bryson’s newborn tested positive for drugs.
The stunning development indicates that the mother had been using illegal substances during her pregnancy.
Bryson’s attempt to profit from the sale of her child is particularly alarming given Texas’s robust “safe haven” laws, which allow parents to surrender newborns at designated safe places within 60 days of birth, no questions asked.
These laws exist precisely to prevent scenarios like this one, where desperate parents might otherwise resort to dangerous or illegal means of giving up their children.
Bryson already has a criminal history, which includes arrests for unauthorized use of a vehicle, assault and criminal mischief.
Bryson now awaits her court appearance, which is set for November 4th in Harris County. Her bail is set at $30,000.
