(DailyEmailNews.com) – Senator Tammy Duckworth’s recent criticism of President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense has sparked a heated debate.
Duckworth, a Democrat and military veteran, has launched a scathing attack on Pete Hegseth over his stance on women in combat roles.
Hegseth, a former Fox News host and Army veteran, has faced backlash from the left for his views and his supposed lack of qualifications for the defense secretary role.
Duckworth has called Hegseth’s viewpoints “flat-out wrong” and claimed that his vision undermines the effectiveness and capabilities of American women who proudly serve.
Duckworth pointed out that women play a key role in the military, asserting they are equally capable of defending freedom as men.
She stressed that women meet the same strict standards required in combat positions and denounced Hegseth’s inability to understand modern military dynamics.
The senator also emphasized Hegseth’s controversy over a past sexual assault allegation.
Although he denied the claims and settled the matter out of court, Duckworth says this raises red flags about his suitability to lead the crucial Department of Defense.
As the nomination process unfolds, Duckworth’s concerns are shared by some Republican senators who anonymously oppose Hegseth’s appointment.
Duckworth continues to challenge the decision, labeling Trump’s nomination as deeply concerning and an insult to the integrity of the Department of Defense.
“It’s frankly an insult and really troubling that Mr. Trump would nominate someone who has admitted he paid off a victim who has claimed rape allegations against him. This is not the kind of person you want to lead the Department of Defense,” Duckworth said.
Despite her words, a CBS News poll showed mixed public opinion on Hegseth’s nomination: 33% viewed him as a good choice and 39% lacked enough information.
This suggests that many Americans are open to Hegseth’s appointment despite the left’s attempts to discredit him.
