(DailyEmailNews.com) – Signaling huge trouble for his longshot run for president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign has been crippled by financial hurdles.
As of the beginning of August, Kennedy’s campaign had only $3.9 million left after spending significantly throughout July.
Citing a Federal Election Commission filing, a recent report noted that Kennedy’s campaign spent over $7 million in July while only raising $5.6 million.
Nearly half of the funds raised came from his running mate, Nicole Shanahan.
The campaign’s largest expense in July was for Accelevate 2020 LLC, a company that helps candidates secure a place on the ballot.
Additional significant outlays included over $600,000 on Facebook and Google advertisements.
The campaign also took on more than $400,000 in new debt to a security firm operated by one of Kennedy’s longtime associates.
Despite establishing a fundraising partnership with the Libertarian Party, the campaign only saw a minor increase in fundraising in July, which was not enough to cover its expenditures.
Kennedy has also been absent from the public campaign trail since early July amid legal setbacks and negative media coverage.
He recently made headlines for controversial actions and statements after admitting to dumping a dead bear in Central Park a decade ago.
Furthermore, he was portrayed negatively in a Vanity Fair piece that showed him beside a burned animal carcass of what looked to be a dog.
However, Kennedy countered the claims by clarifying that the carcass was actually that of a goat.
Additionally, Kennedy reportedly reached out to both presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
Kennedy has proposed to withdraw from the race and endorse one of them in exchange for a potential role in their administration.
Complicating his campaign further, a judge last week invalidated essential documents Kennedy submitted to appear on the New York ballot.
The court ruled that Kennedy falsely claimed residence in New York on his nominating petitions.
This legal decision could pose problems for his eligibility in other states where he has qualified to appear on the ballot.
