(DailyEmailNews.com) – After suffering a fall during a congressional trip, 84-year-old former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had to get an emergency hip replacement surgery in Germany.
The incident happened during the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
Pelosi, one of the oldest members of the House, tripped on marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg during an official engagement.
The fall resulted in a fractured hip that required immediate medical attention and emergency surgery at a U.S. military hospital in Germany.
Despite her advanced age and this recent health setback, Pelosi shows no signs of stepping away from her political career.
She was re-elected in November to serve through 2026, though she has not announced plans for another term beyond that.
“Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg for their excellent care and kindness,” said Pelosi’s Communications Director Ian Krager.
“Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans,” he added.
While Pelosi’s spokesperson claims she is “well on the mend,” the incident has forced her to miss the remainder of the congressional delegation’s engagements.
As Pelosi recovers from her surgery, questions linger about her political future and the broader topic of aging leadership in Congress.
With no specific date given for her return to the United States, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact her ability to serve effectively.
