(DailyEmailNews.com) – In a dramatic development, staunch Trump ally and conservative firebrand Steve Bannon has avoided jail time but admitted to fraud in a plea deal in the “We Build the Wall” case.
Bannon, who served as President Donald Trump’s chief strategist, pleaded guilty to a single count of scheme to defraud in Manhattan state court.
This plea comes after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi ordered an investigation into alleged prosecutorial misconduct, suggesting that the case against Bannon may have been tainted from the start.
The plea deal resulted in the dropping of more serious money laundering and conspiracy charges, indicating the weakness of the prosecution’s case.
Bannon’s lawyer emphasized that his client did not personally pocket any money from the “We Build the Wall” campaign, which raised over $20 million to support President Trump’s vision for border security.
Notably, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg took up this case after a presidential pardon from President Trump in 2021 halted a federal prosecution.
This move by Bragg, who has also pursued charges against President Trump, raises pressing concerns about the weaponization of the justice system and the targeting of conservative figures.
Bragg asserted, “New York has an important interest in rooting out fraud in our markets, our corporations, and our charities, and we will continue to do just that.”
“This resolution achieves our primary goal: to protect New York’s charities and New Yorkers’ charitable giving from fraud,” he added.
Bannon has described the case as “political persecution,” which resonates with many who see a pattern of selective prosecution against Trump supporters.
Bannon now must avoid legal trouble for three years and is prohibited from fundraising or holding positions in charities in New York.
It is worth noting that Bannon previously served four months in prison for defying a subpoena related to the January 6 Capitol attack investigation.
Bannon has revealed he would ask Bondi to prosecute New York Attorney General Letitia Jame and probe Bragg for rigging the justice system against President Trump.
“Letitia James is the existential threat to the Trump administration,” Bannon firmly declared.
Bannon’s criticism of James highlights the ongoing legal battles President Trump and his allies face.
These relentless attacks on conservative leaders underscore the need for vigilance in protecting constitutional rights and the integrity of the justice system from liberal abuse.
