(DailyEmailNews.com) – Marking a new chapter in its history, NASCAR officials recently announced that the Cup Series will host its first-ever international points event in the modern era, with a racе scheduled in Mexico for the 2025 season.

The event will take placе at Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on June 15. Meanwhile, a NASCAR Xfinity Series race will be held at the same venue on June 14.
The Xfinity race will bе broadcast on The CW, while the Cup Series event will be shown on Prime Video.
“This has been on our radar for a long time,” said NASCAR executive vice president, chief venue and racing innovation officer Ben Kennedy.
“We’ve been talking about the continued iteration of our schedule, right? You can go back a few years, went to new markets like Nashville and Austin, Texas. We went to the Coliseum for the Clash,” Kennedy said.
“We went to our first street race in downtown Chicago, and this is going to be another first for us in a lot of ways. This is going to be certainly a monumental event for us, the first time we’re going south of the border,” he added.
Though this will be the first points-paying Cup Series event in Mexico, NASCAR has had a presence in the country before.
The Hermanos Rodríguez circuit hosted four Xfinity Series races from 2005 to 2008, with winners including current Cup Series stars Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch.
NASCAR has also overseen the NASCAR México Series since 2004, and the Hermanos Rodríguez track will host this year’s season finale on November 3.
Mexican-born Cup Series driver Daniel Suárez emerged from that series and expressed his excitement about the upcoming race. “This is really a dream come true,” Suárez said during the announcement.
Kennedy revealed that the partnership with Mexico City is a multiyear deal, marking a significant expansion of NASCAR’s international footprint.
The Cup Series has a history of international races, including two in Canada in its earliest years and a series of exhibition races in Japan from 1996 to 1998.
Kennedy emphasized the importancе of this move for NASCAR’s global presence: “So, it’s going to be a big project for us.”
