(DailyEmailNews.com) – In an alarming development, tens of thousands of popular Hyundai vehicles are being recalled due to a possibly deadly wiring defect.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Hyundai Motor North America is recalling more than 42,000 vehicles from its 2025 Santa Cruz and Tucson lineup.
A critical wiring issue could cause these vehicles to unexpectedly shift out of park without the brake pedal being pressed, potentially causing dangerous rollaway incidents.
“Owners are advised to use the parking brake when parking the vehicle,” the NHTSA said. “Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary.”
This recall affects over 35,500 Tucson and 6,900 Santa Cruz vehicles in the United States.
Both models have starting prices exceeding $28,000 and are marketed as family-friendly options.
The Santa Cruz, a pickup truck and SUV hybrid, and the Tucson, a standard SUV, are now under scrutiny for their safety standards.
The timing of this recall could not be worse for Hyundai, which is preparing to release hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Tucson later this fall.
It remains unclear how this safety issue will impact the rollout of these new “eco-friendly” models.
Even worse, Hyundai is not dealing with just one recall. The company is also recalling over 145,000 electric Genesis and IONIQ vehicles due to potential damage to the integrated charging control units.
This dual recall raises serious concerns about Hyundai’s quality control processes and its commitment to consumer safety.
While Hyundai has promised free repairs for both recalls, the inconvenience and potential danger to American families cannot be ignored.
Owners of affected vehicles will only receive notification letters in January 2025, leaving them at risk for months.
