(DailyEmailNews.com) – A shocking study by the University of Colorado Boulder reveals a grim reality: one in 15 Americans have experienced the horror of a mass shooting firsthand.
This revelation underscores the depth of a problem that liberal policies have failed to address effectively.
Nearly 7% of U.S. adults have found themselves at the sites of mass shootings, having to deal with the subsequent associated trauma and danger.
Additionally, more than 2% of these individuals have sustained injuries in these horrific incidents.
The study by University of Colorado Boulder criminologists wishes to expose how society has failed to create safe environments.
Gun violence is not just numbers and statistics but a deeply impactful experience with long-lasting psychological effects.
Those who witness mass shootings often suffer from fear, anxiety, and depression.
The issue does not affect just an isolated group but Americans across all regions, highlighting a failure to address problems that promote violence.
More than half of these experiences occurred in the last decade, marking a disturbing trend.
“This study confirms that mass shootings are not isolated tragedies but rather a reality that reaches a substantial portion of the population, with profound physical and psychological consequences,” said the study’s lead author David Pyrooz.
Mass shootings are defined as incidents involving four or more people being shot in public spaces.
Many such tragedies unfold in designated “gun-free zones” like schools, bars, and shopping centers.
Gun violence overtook car crashes as the leading cause of death for children in the U.S. in 2020.
The statistics speak volumes, revealing an America that is facing an epidemic of violence.
The research calls for thorough public health strategies, stronger interventions, and more robust systems to support affected communities.
Black Americans and males report higher rates of witnessing these tragedies, often finding themselves in harm’s way more than others.
Income and education levels did not impact who might experience these tragedies.
The researchers claim their data shows younger generations, particularly Generation Z, are disproportionately affected by mass shootings.
“Our findings lend credence to the idea of a ‘mass shooting generation.’ People who grew up in the aftermath of Columbine have unique experiences that are really distinguishable from the older population,” Pyrooz added.
