Kari Lake Throws in the Towel

(DailyEmailNews.com) – Deciding it was no longer worth fighting for it while there were more pressing issues ahead, lawyers representing Kari Lake, who is campaigning for Arizona’s Senate seat, opted to drop a defamation lawsuit against her.

They opted not to challenge accusations that she spread defamatory statements about an Arizona election official following her loss in the 2022 gubernatorial race.

Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer started legal action against Lake personally last year. He alleges Lake slandered him by refusing to acknowledge her electoral defeat and by making unfounded claims of electoral fraud.

Richer’s lawsuit says that Lake deliberately spread falsehoods about his conduct as recorder, which resulted in personal harassment and multiple death threats. Specifically, he accuses Lake of baselessly alleging that he “stuffed” ballot boxes with 300,000 invalid votes and used his position to confuse voters on the ballot.

“For the last seven months, I have been subjected to constant harassment, intimidation, and threats to my and my family’s lives because the defendants in this case were spreading falsehoods about me, my work, and our elections,” Richer stated upon filing the lawsuit.

By not challenging Richer’s allegations in their recent court submission and instead requesting a swift judgment on the damages, Lake’s attorneys effectively did not refute the claims of defamation.

Richer interpreted this move as an acknowledgment of Lake’s guilt, expressing on X, “Won’t defend / can’t defend. I’ll get my due. But not the millions of people she lied to.”

“Not the thousands of people who donated ‘to continue the fight.’ Not the people who have gone to jail because they so strongly believed Kari’s lies,” he added. “Those people won’t get their due.”

However, Lake denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the legal proceedings as an unnecessary “political witch hunt” and a “frivolous” lawsuit.

“Washington, D.C. operates on blackmail and bribes. Since they can’t blackmail or bribe me, they’ve resorted to filing a punishing lawsuit to try to stop me and bleed me dry,” she said in a video statement. “They’re threatening to take everything I own. What they don’t realize is even if they leave me, my husband and children homeless and penniless, that won’t stop us.”

Lake is currently running against Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego for the seat vacated by retiring Democrat-turned-Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema. Although early polling shows Gallego with a slight lead, the race is expected to be fiercely contested as it could prove crucial for Senate control.
