IRS Slammed – ID Theft Response Delays!

(DailyEmailNews.com) – In a stunning revelation, the IRS’ incompetence in handling identity theft cases is leaving half a million hardworking Americans in financial limbo.

The scandal came to light even after the agency received a massive $80 billion windfall from Joe Biden’s so-called Inflation Reduction Act.

The IRS is failing spectacularly at its most basic duty: protecting taxpayers from fraud.

This gross mismanagement is yet another example of big government’s inability to serve the people.

National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins has exposed the IRS’ failure, revealing that nearly 500,000 taxpayers are still waiting for their identity theft cases to be resolved.

“IRS delays in resolving identity theft victim assistance cases are unconscionable,” Collins declared, pulling no punches in her criticism of the agency.

Some victims have been left hanging for almost two years while their hard-earned money is held hostage by bureaucratic ineptitude.

The IRS’ incompetence is particularly alarming given the massive influx of cash it received from the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Instead of using these funds to streamline operations and protect honest taxpayers, the agency seems more interested in expanding its reach into the pockets of law-abiding citizens.

This controversy is a reminder of the IRS’ longstanding issues, including when it was politically weaponized against conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status back in 2013.

It is clear that the agency’s problems run deep and that throwing more money at it is not the solution.

While the IRS fumbles, identity thieves have a field day by filing fraudulent tax returns using stolen Social Security numbers to claim refunds that rightfully belong to honest Americans.

The victims of these crimes are left to navigate a bureaucratic nightmare, often waiting years for resolution while facing financial hardship.

The impact of these delays is particularly devastating for low-income taxpayers who rely on their tax refunds to cover basic living expenses.

Tax attorney Adam Brewer offers advice that underscores the IRS’ failures: “Let’s say a Social Security recipient, they’re under the filing threshold, or someone else that just has low, low income, they may not file a return and that leaves the door open.”

“Don’t wait until April 15. Don’t wait till October 15. Get your return in, and then no one else can file after it.” Brewer continued.

“The other way to do it is file electronically, because you could file the first week of February, but if you file by paper it might sit there for a couple weeks, couple months even,” he added.

In other words, taxpayers are now forced to race against criminals just to file their own returns, all because the IRS is not doing its job efficiently.

The IRS has even attempted to deflect criticism by claiming a tripled closure rate of identity theft cases since 2020.

However, this disclosure means little when half a million cases remain unresolved.
