Liberals have been left fuming as House Republicans close the faucet on their unashamed attempts to illegally inflate their voting base.
Specifically, the lower chamber of Congress scored a decisive victory for election integrity by passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act with a 220-208 vote.
The landmark legislation requires proof of citizenship for voter registration, directly addressing concerns about non-citizens influencing American elections.
The SAVE Act requires prospective voters to provide documentary evidence of U.S. citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, when registering to vote.
This measure codifies President Donald Trump’s executive order on the matter.
It comes amid growing concerns about election integrity following years of questionable border policies that have allowed millions of illegal aliens into the country.
Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) dropped a bombshell during floor debate:
“This past week and today, all we hear are the Democrats sharing their concerns that rural Americans, women and people of color are not capable of getting an ID. This is insulting, condescending and an untrue argument. You need an ID for most everything else in daily life.”
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), a key proponent of the legislation, emphasized the urgency of addressing non-citizens on voter rolls.
“It’s a growing and increasing problem,” Roy said. “We just want to get in front of it now.”
Similar initiatives are already underway in Texas for local, state, and presidential elections, showing how states are taking the lead on protecting the integrity of elections.
Four Democrats crossed party lines to support the bill, recognizing the importance of ensuring only American citizens participate in the process.
The legislation now moves to the Senate, where Majority Leader John Thune is a cosponsor, though the narrow Republican majority means passage remains uncertain.
“Election integrity is everything,” Rep. Wesley Hunt stated (R-TX). “It’s up to us to do the best that we can to make sure that in the future, we have free and fair elections for everyone in this country.”
Democrats have launched a coordinated campaign against the bill, claiming it would disenfranchise millions of Americans.
Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA) went so far as to call it “a poll tax, plain and simple,” despite the fact that Americans already need identification for countless everyday activities.
The SAVE Act simply creates a verification system that protects this fundamental aspect of sovereignty.
Critics point to a similar Kansas law that was deemed unconstitutional. Still, supporters argue that the SAVE Act addresses those legal concerns while fulfilling the same vital purpose of protecting election integrity.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already begun purging non-citizens from voter rolls in his state, removing 6,500 individuals who should never have been registered in the first place.
