Former President Is ‘Coming to the End’

(DailyEmailNews.com) – During a recent event, former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, shared insights into his grandfather’s declining health and said that the elder Carter is “coming to the end.”

Speaking at the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum at the Carter Center, Jason Carter provided an update on his 99-year-old grandfather, who has been in hospice care since February 2023.

The Carter Center, for which Jason Carter serves as the chair of the board of trustees, had previously stated that Jimmy Carter would give up any “additional medical intervention.”

“My grandfather is doing okay. He has been in hospice, as you know, for almost a year and a half now,” Jason Carter said.

He elaborated on the spiritual significance of this phase for his grandfather, stating:

“He really is, I think, coming to the end that, as I’ve said before, there’s a part of this faith journey that is so important to him, and there’s a part of that faith journey that you only can live at the very end, and I think he has been there in that space.”

Jason Carter also reflected on the recent passing of grandmother Rosalynn Carter, who died last year at age 96. He described her death as a” difficult moment for all of us – including my grandfather.”

In an earlier conversation with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he recounted how his grandfather spent considerable time bidding farewell to his wife and found peace after her departure.

“He had this opportunity to say goodbye, and after that, he was just totally at peace with it. And it was an incredible thing after 77 years of marriage to watch that type of closure,” he shared on the “Monica Pearson Show.”

Despite his health, Jimmy Carter managed to attend the memorial services for his wife, although he did not speak at the events.
