Dems to Biden: Stay Away!

( – In the run-up to the 2024 elections, it seems that some Democrats in Congress are trying to put some space between their campaigns and Joe Biden so they can avoid being dragged down by his abysmal poll ratings.

With the elections just five months away, Biden is finding it tough to compete against former President Donald Trump, both on a national level and in key battleground states.

According to Axios, Biden’s lackluster polling has led several Democratic lawmakers to make their campaigns “Biden-proof” in an attempt to give their already tight races a boost.

“[There is] more distancing now as his numbers continue to tank,” said a House Democrat while stating that he was “pretty much washing my hands of his campaign.”

As shared by Democratic incumbents, candidates and operatives, by distancing their campaigns from Biden they avoid publicly “rejecting” the president.

Other Democrats, especially those in swing districts, are making efforts to set themselves apart from Biden in terms of policy.

A group of House Democrats sent Biden a letter in May to urge him to take executive action on the immigration crisis at the southern border.

“It has become clear that the current situation remains untenable, but with Republicans playing politics on border security, it is time for your administration to act,” read the letter.

“We urge you to use all tools at your disposal, including executive action, to better address security at the Southern border, interdict illicit fentanyl and allow for orderly legal immigration,” it added.

After months of saying he did not have the power to do anything, Biden is expected to sign an executive order to address the border crisis today.

Biden was reportedly searching for the “right language” to draft an executive order in April after weeks of blaming Congressional Republicans for the migrant crisis.

He also mentioned that he was exploring whether he had the “power” to take measures to address the U.S.-Mexico border situation.

In an attempt to divert attention from the desperate measure regarding the border, Biden’s campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said:

“Joe Biden created 15 million jobs, capped the price of insulin at $35 and made health care more affordable than ever. That record of historic results for the American people is what the president and Democrats across the country will be running on.”
