BLM Plaza and Mural Near White House Removed

Black Lives Matter street sign against building background

(DailyEmailNews.com) – Marking a major victory for millions of Americans who have long criticized the divisive street mural, the controversial Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington D.C. is finally being dismantled.

Work crews finally began tearing up the giant yellow letters near the White House this week.

This bombshell development comes after Republican lawmakers threatened to withhold critical transportation funding from the nation’s capital unless the symbolic remnant of the 2020 riots was removed.

The mural’s removal comes after House Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) introduced legislation that would have cut federal funding to D.C. if the plaza remained intact.

The Georgia Republican had demanded that the street display be removed and renamed “Liberty Plaza,” citing the Black Lives Matter organization’s controversial history and radical agenda.

“Our capital city must serve as a beacon of freedom, patriotism, and safety — not wokeness, divisiveness, and lawlessness,” said Clyde in his push to remove the provocative display.

The massive “BLACK LIVES MATTER” lettering was initially painted in June 2020 by order of Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser during the height of the George Floyd riots.

The move was widely seen as a direct provocation against then-President Donald Trump and his administration.

President Trump, who returned to the White House this January, has made eliminating divisive “woke” initiatives a cornerstone of his administration’s policy approach.

“We have ended the tyranny of so-called diversity, equity and inclusion policies all across the entire federal government and, indeed, the private sector and our military. And our country will be woke no longer,” the president stated.

Mayor Bowser has publicly resisted the removal, claiming that “the mural inspired millions and helped our city through a very painful period.”

However, she was ultimately forced to capitulate rather than risk losing vital funding for the District.

The mayor announced an “evolution” of the space as part of America’s upcoming 250th birthday celebration in an attempt to save face.

Ironically, the BLM mural has faced criticism from both sides of the political aisle since its creation.

The D.C. chapter of Black Lives Matter itself had dismissed the street painting as a superficial gesture that distracted from real policy demands.

Meanwhile, conservatives viewed it as a glorification of an organization with questionable financial practices and radical political positions.

“The world is healing,” wrote Chaya Raichik, creator of the popular conservative account Libs of TikTok, in response to news of the plaza’s dismantling.

According to the District Department of Transportation, the removal process is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.

The area will then be redesigned as part of a citywide mural project commemorating America’s 250th birthday, trading divisive messaging for a celebration of patriotism and national unity.

For many Americans who watched in dismay as riots and destruction swept across the country in 2020, the dismantling of this prominent symbol of that turbulent time represents a welcome return to sanity in the nation’s capital.
