(DailyEmailNews.com) – In an alarming development, France’s first case of a new mpox variant has sparked concerns across the entire globe.

The French health ministry recently announced the detection of the first case of a new mpox virus variant, clade 1b, in the Brittany region.

This revelation comes as the World Health Organization (WHO) maintains its highest alert level for the mpox epidemic.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is related to smallpox and can be transmitted between humans through close contact.

The virus can be deadly: symptoms include fever, muscular aches, and large boil-like skin lesions.

The emergency over the virus was declared in August and renewed in November when the WHO alerted of an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The infected individual in France had not traveled to central Africa but was reportedly in contact with two people who had returned from the region.

France’s case brings the total number of EU cases to eight. Other European countries like Sweden, Germany, Belgium, and the U.K. have also reported instances of this new variant.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control claims the risk to the general population in Europe is low.

However, some skeptics argue that this assessment could be a ploy to downplay the potential threat and avoid public scrutiny.

It is worth noting that the mpox clade Ib, which originated in the DRC, is reportedly more severe than the clade II variant responsible for the 2022 global outbreak.

While health authorities claim to be rigorously investigating the path of the infection and working to trace all potential contacts, some citizens remain highly concerned.

As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for American citizens to stay informed and vigilant.

While public health measures are important, everyone must also be wary of attempts to use health crises as a pretext for expanding government control and eroding individual freedoms.
