Harley’s ‘Woke’ Comeback?

HARLEY GOES WOKE

A new showdown over Harley-Davidson’s leadership has riders asking whether the iconic American brand is quietly drifting back into the same “woke” ditch that already cost it dearly.

Story Snapshot

  • Conservative activist Robby Starbuck accuses Harley-Davidson of reinstalling “woke” leadership through recent executive hires.[1]
  • Starbuck points to CEO Artie Starrs’ and chief brand officer Marcus Fischer’s past diversity and Pride initiatives as red flags.[1][2]
  • Harley-Davidson insists its agenda is “back to basics,” focused on bikes, dealers, and workers, not ideology.[1]
  • Dealers downplay the controversy, saying the company is concentrating on manufacturing and rider relationships, not online battles.[3]

Starbuck revives boycott fears over Harley’s ‘woke’ direction

Conservative activist Robby Starbuck, who led a major 2024 consumer boycott of Harley-Davidson over corporate diversity, equity and inclusion programs, is again warning that the company’s leadership is drifting left.[1]

Starbuck told Fox Business that Harley-Davidson’s latest executive hires show the company “didn’t learn anything” from the earlier backlash, arguing that management is being stacked with people tied to diversity activism and Pride causes rather than traditional riders and builders.[1] For many patriots, that sounds uncomfortably familiar.

Starbuck’s new video investigation lays out a detailed case that Harley-Davidson is now “hopelessly woke,” accusing leadership of repeating the same mistakes that triggered the earlier revolt among core customers.[2][3]

He warns that installing executives steeped in corporate diversity and Pride politics risks alienating blue-collar Americans who expect Harley-Davidson to stand for freedom, craftsmanship, and the open road, not social engineering.[1][2] The renewed campaign seeks to pressure the company before those riders permanently walk away from the brand.

Executive hires under the microscope: DEI, Pride, and branding power

At the center of Starbuck’s criticism is chief executive officer Artie Starrs, hired in 2025 after leading companies such as Topgolf and Pizza Hut.[1][2] Starbuck highlights Starrs’ previous sponsorship of groups tied to San Francisco Pride and support for antiracism training for teachers, portraying those moves as proof of a deep commitment to corporate diversity agendas.[1][2]

He argues that this background makes Starrs a strange choice to “clean up” Harley-Davidson’s earlier diversity controversies, rather than a signal of real change away from left-wing corporate culture.

Starbuck also singles out new chief brand officer Marcus Fischer, who previously led marketing agency Carmichael Lynch.[1][2] In his video, Starbuck accuses Fischer of being a “woke disgrace to the brand,” noting that the agency promoted more transgender representation in advertising, staged drag-themed events, and raised money for organizations supporting transgender ideology, including content aimed at young people.[2]

For conservative riders, the concern is that putting such a figure in charge of branding gives diversity politics direct control over how Harley-Davidson presents itself to America.

Harley-Davidson and dealers push back, say focus is ‘back to basics’

Harley-Davidson responds that the narrative of a left-wing takeover does not match what is happening inside the company, emphasizing instead a return to fundamentals.[1]

In comments reported by Fox Business, the company says Artie Starrs has been traveling the country listening to riders, dealers, employees, and unions, with a stated agenda of “getting back to basics” by building motorcycles, strengthening the United States dealer network, and supporting its workforce.[1] Leadership frames the recent hires as operational decisions to rebuild the brand, not as attempts to advance any social ideology.

Some Harley-Davidson dealers echo this view and downplay Starbuck’s campaign, telling a Milwaukee business outlet that the company is focusing on manufacturing bikes and deepening connections with riders rather than reacting to social media storms.[3]

From their perspective, the priority is making sure motorcycles roll off the line and into showrooms, not defending executives’ past corporate diversity initiatives.[3] This clash leaves grassroots conservatives deciding whether to trust the company’s “back to basics” message or side with activists warning that personnel choices reveal a different agenda.
