(DailyEmailNews.com) – An entire community has been left outraged and scrambling for answers after a six-year-old girl unexpectedly died from eating at McDonald’s.
Angelica Vazquez, from Springfield, Massachusetts, lost her life due to an E. coli infection, leaving her family devastated.
The young girl fell ill after having a cheeseburger at a McDonald’s in Western Massachusetts.
When she started experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting, her family thought it was a common stomach bug.
However, Angelica’s condition deteriorated quickly. She went into cardiac arrest and died at Baystate Medical Center.
Her mother Samantha Ocasio is now on a mission to raise awareness about E. coli to prevent similar tragedies.
“It was fast. It was really, really fast,” Ocasio said of her daughter’s sudden death. “I don’t want it to happen to anybody else’s kids.”
The tragedy has brought attention to a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s onions that affected 75 people in 13 states.
McDonald’s has since stopped selling burgers with the affected onions and switched suppliers.
Ocasio’s frustration is crystal clear as she grapples with the loss of her daughter and the lack of clear answers. “My whole concern is ‘OK, if it wasn’t the McDonald’s, what is it?'” she demanded.
“I’m going to miss a lot of firsts with her, and it’s just a lot,” Ocasio sobbed to WBTV. “I’m going to miss a lot.”
This tragic event underscores the importance of recognizing E. coli symptoms, including severe diarrhea, vomiting and fever.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that children under 5, adults over 65 and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for E. coli infections.
Families across America are now left wondering if they can trust going out for their usual fast-food meal.
Although McDonald’s has expressed condolences and claimed that no E. coli cases have been linked to their restaurants in Massachusetts, the fact remains that a kid lost her life after eating their food.
