43 Senate Republicans Sign THIS Demand Letter

(DailyEmailNews.com) – Refusing to sit down and allow Democrats to overlook a critical situation that has pushed America to its limits, an overwhelming majority of Republican senators are pressing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for a thorough impeachment trial.

As the House gears up to send the Senate the articles of impeachment for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for relinquishing control of the southern border, 43 Republican senators are calling Democratic leadership to let the procedure play out.

Led by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the senators sent Schumer a letter demanding the Senate stick to its constitutional duty to assess the House’s impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas thoroughly.

Notably, six GOP senators did not sign the letter, some of whom have publicly said the House did not provide enough evidence to back claims of Mayorkas committing “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mitt Romney (R-UT) are among the non-signatories.

Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Rand Paul (R-KY) also refrained from signing, though the reasons why they did so remain undisclosed.

Tuberville has vocally advocated for a complete Senate trial and Cassidy recently said he opposed any motions to shelve the impeachment charges.

The GOP’s call comes as Democrats have said they would dismiss the charges against Mayorkas to redirect public attention to Republicans for derailing a border agreement earlier in the year.

However, Schumer has not revealed how the Senate will navigate the impeachment.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has chosen to delay bringing the impeachment articles to Schumer until next week, allowing senators more time to work on the issue at the start of their workweek.

Responding to queries after Johnson’s delay announcement, Schumer said he was ready to proceed. “We’re sticking with our plan. We’re going to move this as expeditiously as possible,” he stated.

Amid concerns that Senate Democrats might employ procedural maneuvers to quickly conclude the trial, a group of Republican Senate has threatened to halt all legislative activities in the upper chamber if Schumer does not allow a full trial.
